The Northwinds Parkway extension was envisioned in the CID’s Blueprint North Fulton master plan and was included in the North Fulton Comprehensive Transportation Plan completed in 2010.

Originally conceived by the True North 400 and local community and business leaders in 2007, the Northwinds Parkway Extension project is a joint effort to build out Northwinds Parkway, which previously ended at Kimball Bridge Road, to Old Milton Parkway. This enhancement offers an alternate route for those traveling to and from the growing collection of commercial, residential and entertainment areas in Alpharetta.
In addition to improving connectivity within the City of Alpharetta and the broader North Fulton community, the Northwinds Parkway Extension Project benefits the new Gwinnett Technical College Alpharetta-North Fulton Campus, located on Old Milton Parkway across from Avalon. The extension includes the addition of a traffic light at the Northwinds-Old Milton intersection and an entrance on the west side of the school.
Financial commitment
This project totaled $6 million and was jointly funded by the True North 400, the Georgia Department of Transportation and the City of Alpharetta.
